about your session
Your photo shoot will take place at your home or at a mutually agreed upon location. Sessions generally last 60-90 minutes, and are never rushed. My approach is to shoot continuously, capturing the personality of your child/family and the spontaneity of everyday life. Of course, when families want a traditional group photograph, some direction is required. I will work to get that perfect family shot as well as capture those real moments with families - the chaos and the tender moments - these are the photographs that truly depict your family. Although my style is suited for black & white photography, digital proofs are available for print in both color and black & white. To see samples of my work, click here.

To help prepare for your photo shoot, please read tips on getting the most out of your session below.

Approximately two weeks after your session, you will be provided with a direct link to view your online photo gallery, where you can view, share, and purchase your photographs. Online photo galleries may be password-protected if preferred. After your order is placed, printing takes just a few days and there are several shipping methods available. Custom coffee table book albums take approximately 4 weeks once the order is placed.

getting the most out of your session

when?
The two important factors to consider are when your home receives the greatest amount of natural light and when your children are at their best - avoid right before naps, mealtime, etc. (For young babies, I totally get that there is no schedule. It's okay!)

where?
I find that photo shoots work best in your home, where your children are most comfortable/at ease and we can take advantage of both the indoor and outdoor spaces. It also makes it easier for children to take break when needed. If you prefer not to have the session in your home, I can help with recommendations for optimal places to shoot.

who is in?
It is best to have only persons being photographed to be present for the shoot. I find children are more at ease when there is less distraction and 'performance' and therefore, personalities really shine. Additionally, when too many cheerleaders are in the room - children tend to focus on different faces behind me and the resulting photographs can be less cohesive.

what to wear?
Simple is best!!! My images are about the individual, not what they wear, and are meant to highlight their faces and natural tones. This is best achieved by avoiding ruffles, large collars, big patterns, decals, logos, etc. Generally, I like bold solid colors on children, no clothes on babies, and dark solids on adults (black/navy/browns). I am happy to discuss clothing options once the shoot is scheduled. If you have a favorite dress, hat, or other accessory - bring it! If it is distracting to the photos, I will let you know.

what to expect?
Your child(ren) may melt down during the shoot - it's okay!!! It's a lot to ask for a child to perform in front of a lens for an extended period of time. I try to make the shoot as fun and relaxed as possible, but sometimes they just need a break!

I am not in a rush, so it is best for parents not to get frustrated. It's not worth getting them more upset - you will regret red swollen eyes! (TIP: sometimes the best photos derive when the child takes a 'break' and doesn't realize he/she is being photographed.)

Favorite snacks are ok to have at your session in case your child is hungry or needs some redirection. However, avoid lollipops, gum or messy/crumby snacks as you will regret the stained teeth or food remnants in the photo! The best snacks are ones your child loves that are clean and quick! (TIP: Lollipops and ice cream cones at the end of a shoot make great photographs! The messier, the better!)

Avoid turning on the television as a break - usually a child becomes more upset because he/she can't finish watching the program.

Parents - be prepared to be goofy with me!
